DVHS Senior Update 5/8/2020

Good afternoon Da Vinci seniors and families,

I am pleased to be able to provide you with an update on graduation and end-of-year activities. Much work has been going on behind the scenes to develop plans that celebrate all of our DJUSD seniors with as much gusto as possible while remaining within the current public health restrictions. In recent days, this planning has coalesced around a few key activities and while there are still details and logistics to be sorted out, the information below should present the broad strokes of our plan and allow you and your family to plan accordingly.

Many entities and organizations in Davis, including but not limited to DJUSD, The Grad Night Committee, and coordinated parent booster and PTA groups have come together to designate Friday, May 29th as a day to celebrate the Class of 2020. Secondary sites with graduating students will be hosting personalized pick-up events at their sites in the morning on that day. For Da Vinci High School (DVHS), the pick-up event will begin at 12:30 pm and last until 2:30 pm.  We invite students to drive to campus (family groups can join in the car) to proceed through a series of stations to pick up their cap and gown, a personalized yard sign, their yearbook and some special treats assembled by our outstanding DVCA Parent Booster Organization. Feel free to decorate your car! This will be a no-contact delivery - teachers and staff will be present in gloves and masks to deliver the items to your vehicle. Social distancing will be practiced and, in the health and safety interests of all community members, you are not allowed to leave your vehicle. We wish that fist bumps, hugs, high fives, and elbow taps were permissible but, unfortunately, no-contact rules will have to be strictly enforced. To reduce traffic congestion, please arrive to campus in accordance with the times below:
  • Last names Adams - Landerman should arrive between 12:30 am - 1:30 pm
  • Last names Latimer - Younis should arrive between 1:30 - 2:30 pm
After completing the DVHS pick up, students are encouraged to view from their vehicles the various celebratory events that will be displayed around the City of Davis beginning at 2:30 pm.

If you have any challenges in participating in this event due to transportation, family obligations, or other issues please notify Adela Johnson at [email protected] and we will make arrangements for alternate methods for your student to receive these items. If you would like to contribute or support this event by volunteering or donating funds, please reach out to senior parent and DVCA Booster member Andrea Vaughn at [email protected]. We are appreciative that all of the various stakeholders have worked collaboratively to make this event safe and celebratory and are very excited to see each of you (from a distance) in a few short weeks.

We are still working through some of the finer points of DVCA 2020 Graduation , but want to take this opportunity to provide another reminder that our streaming graduation is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 7:01 pm and will be accessed through a web address that will be shared to you in the coming weeks. Please be mindful that in order for our graduation to be personalized and meaningful, we are relying upon each senior student to contribute their part through the 15 seconds of fame videos and the graduation write up/comments. If you have any questions about those activities, please communicate with your Political Studies teachers, Mrs. Conners at [email protected] and Ms. Lanni at [email protected]

With gratitude and appreciation,
